GMRC Lunch and Learn – Tiny Houses

The GMRC will be hosting Kim Bucciero of Tiny House Atlanta as part of a lunch and learn event (tentatively) scheduled for Monday, February 26, from 11:30 to 12:30.  Catering is still TBD but will be provided courtesy of the Georgia Planning Association.

She’ll be on hand to talk about the evolution of the industry, what developers and residents are wanting in tiny homes, and how various communities have addressed the phenomena through local codes.  We’re hoping to add an additional speaker and will be registering for AICP credits for the session.

Contact ahazell@gmrc.ga.gov for more info or to sign up for the session.

PlanFirst nominations due May 15, 2017.  The GMRC can help!

PlanFirst is DCA’s program to recognize and reward communities that clearly demonstrate an established pattern of successfully implementing their Local Comprehensive Plan.  In addition to the statewide recognition, communities selected for PlanFirst are eligible for incentives such as the ability to apply for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) annually during the designation period and bonus points on DCA programs such as the Redevelopment Fund or Employment Incentive Program.

The GMRC has assisted with past nominations, including Lula’s successful bid 2 years ago.  Contact the Planning Department with any questions or to explore how we can assist with your nomination.

GPA’s Spring Conference

The annual one-day Spring Conference for the Georgia Planning Association (GPA) is right around the corner, in both location and on your calendar! Join your colleagues on March 28th at the Gainesville Civic Center in Downtown Gainesville. The keynote speaker will be Ed McBrayer from the PATH Foundation. Registration will open in a few weeks.  Contact the GMRC or check out the link above for more information about the schedule, mobile workshops, and sponsorship opportunities!  If you would like to nominate a session for the conference, contact ahazell@gmrc.ga.gov by February 2.
